Greeting the Land Ritual

  • TOWN's development site, Northstowe England United Kingdom (map)

“Whatever beings that are here assembled, whether terrestrial or celestial, may every being be happy and joyful”

  • from the Ratana Sutta

Over the past few months, we have been working together on the details of our shared project to build a Buddhist cohousing community — and deepening connections and friendships.

It feels timely now, before work begins on the site, to more mindfully introduce ourselves to the land: to honour the beings who live there, seen and unseen; to offer our blessings, and to ask for their blessings in return. In the creation of Suvana, it is not only our world that may be changing, but theirs too.

We can ask that our blessings touch all those who will one day live there — as neighbours and as a wider community — so that they may be well and at ease.

You are warmly invited to join us for a simple ritual to greet and bless the site. Following the ritual we will have a picnic lunch together.

All welcome!

Bring your friends and family, and bring some vegan or vegetarian food and drink to share as a picnic.

No need to book, just show up in good time before the 11am start.

Where is the site?

The Suvana site is on a parcel of brownfield land in Northstowe near Cambridge.

Take the train to Cambridge North Railway Station, then a fast bus on Cambridgeshire Guided Busway to Longstanton Park and Ride, then a 30 minute walk to our land. Or you can cycle from Cambridge North station on the cycleway alongside the Busway. If you are driving, there’s space to park on the corner, right here.

Our new community will be even easier to get to once it’s built, including with a bus stop on a new spur of the Guided Busway right next to us.

Where shall we meet for the ritual?

Let’s meet at the edge of the Greenway park and our site, which is at this spot and marked on the drone photo below. Another aerial photograph showing the location will be in the next Suvana Newsletter and Cocreator Update.

Points to note:

  • You enter at your own risk and accept that Hill/Town and Suvana will not accept any liability for any injury, loss, or damage.

  • You acknowledge that this is an agricultural site/field and that the ground conditions are uneven and may be unsuitable in places.

  • We are responsible for ensuring that the site is left secure.

  • We are making a video, please let us know, preferably before proceedings commence, if you would prefer not to be seen in it.

  • Please stay together for the whole ritual, so that we can all hear and participate.

  • Please put your phones on silent.

What is Suvana?

Suvana is a co-housing community grounded in Buddhist values, which we have been co-designing with our partner developer and architects.

We now have planning permission and construction will start later in 2026.

Who’s involved?

Making this radical community a reality, is a widening group of friends. Some of us are Buddhists, some just want to live by the principles of non-harm, generosity, contentment, truthfulness and mindfulness.

We love it when new people start getting involved! Get in touch with us by email or come along to this ritual or other events.
